Born in MCMXC.
Loves reading, but thinks that he is not reading enough.
Wanted to become astrophysicist in his childhood (among other things).
My name is Fabio Spirinelli. I am a historian currently living and researching in Luxembourg. I was born in Luxembourg, but the history of my family is one of many immigration histories. I conduct research on the past, but I love reading and watching science-fiction.
I studied history at the University of Luxembourg. My bachelor’s thesis focused on the history of racism and anti-racism in Luxembourg since the 1970s.
After my Bachelor’s degree, I studied arts du spectacle (performing arts) at the University of Liège, which encompassed lectures about cinema, theatre and communication theory.
However, I had not lost interest in history – among my favourite lectures in Liège figured history of cinema and of theatre. I enrolled for the Master in European and Contemporary History at the University of Luxembourg in 2014, which I successfully accomplished in 2016. My master’s thesis on the history of cultural policy in Luxembourg from 1945 to 2015 was awarded Best Master’s Thesis in History at the University of Luxembourg in 2016.
From 2016 to 2020, I was a PhD researcher at the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (University of Luxembourg). In October 2020, I received the degree of Doctor in History. In my thesis, I analysed the history of cultural policy in Luxembourg with the State museums as a case study, from the 1920s to the 1970s. My main research focus is (European) contemporary history, Luxembourgish history, cultural policy, cultural history and cultural institutions. However, I have also a vivid interest in digital history and public history and I am always eager to acquire new knowledge in those fields.Visit my ORCID profile:
